Welcome to the workshop of Maître Savon de Marseille! Explore with us the meticulous five-step manufacturing process that has made our soap a symbol of authenticity and quality for over 130 years at Maitre Savon de Marseille.
How real Marseille soap is made
The process of creating traditional Marseille soap takes place in huge cauldrons, using only pure vegetable oils, with no added colorants, artificial fragrances or preservatives.
These oils, meticulously mixed and heated in the cauldron in the presence of soda, undergo a gradual transformation until they become soap.

The know-how required to produce authentic Marseille soap rests solely in the expert hands of the master soap-maker. He possesses ancestral know-how, guaranteeing meticulous respect for the five stages of the "Marseille process".
Each of these steps contributes to the creation of an exceptional soap, perpetuating an age-old tradition.

The 5 steps of the "Marseilles process
Stuffing
EMPATAGE marks the beginning of our process, where vegetable oils and lye mix in a cauldron under moderate heat, creating a boiling emulsion.
Dumping
After SAMPLING, RELARGAGE takes place. As soap is insoluble in salt water, we add sea salt to separate the excess lye.
cooking
Next comes BAKING, a crucial operation that characterizes saponification, enabling the complete transformation of vegetable oils into soap.
refining
The process continues with WASHING, where the soap paste is refined by successive washes, removing glycerol, impurities and unsaponified fatty acids from the cauldron.
liquidation
Finally, LIQUIDATION takes place, ensuring the transition from the soap's crystalline structure to its smooth phase through the addition of fresh water.
